Mixed methods research: We undertake a broad range of social research projects, working for and with a diverse range of clients across the Scottish public and third sectors. Our team includes highly experience qualitative and quantitative researchers, and we have a particular interest in developing inclusive approaches that deliver robust findings and meaningful insight.
Much of our work is in relation to housing, social care, health and education. Examples of work for the Scottish Government include a qualitative study on the First Home Fund, an evaluation of Scottish Government Shared Equity Schemes and a series of Attainment Scotland Fund Head Teacher surveys.
Research with seldom heard groups: We have particular skills in capturing the experiences and views of those who can be harder to reach, including those on lower incomes, people who are homeless and those with health or social care needs.
National studies have included a qualitative study into COVID-19 support in low income households and a Review of Independent Information and Support Services, both for the Scottish Government. We have also worked with a wide range of local authority and third sector clients covering issues such as people’s experience of using specialist housing, homelessness and family support services.
Housing needs and demand studies: The team includes a number of housing policy and planning specialists, and we have undertaken a wide range of general and specialist housing needs studies, including into older people’s housing options.
We have worked for a range of local authorities and housing associations across Scotland and have most recently been appointed to carry out a Housing Needs Survey for East Lothian Council.
Housing allocations policy and practice work: Social housing allocations policy is an area of particular expertise, and we have undertaken a wide range of allocations-related contracts for housing partnerships, local authorities and housing associations. Our work includes policy scoping and redesign, often underpinned by detailed, area-based modelling exercises.
We led the team that developed the current Social housing allocations in Scotland: practice guide for the Scottish Government. Other contracts have included review and redesign of the Renfrewshire Common Allocations Policy and the development of a new groups and pointing approach for the Highland Housing Partnership.
Consultation analysis: Our recent projects range from major national consultations on high profile issues through to smaller technical consultations, often relating to housing, planning or social care. Recent clients include the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland.
